Statement on death of Comrade Hulya Simsek
1 September 2001

It is with deep regret that the Comrade Officers, staff and volunteers of the Irish National Liberation Army, the Ard Comhairle, area and local executives and membership of the Irish Republican Socialist Party received news late last night of the death of Comrade Hulya Simsek following 286 days on hunger strike. Comrade Simsek met with a member of the leadership of the Irish Republican Socialist Movement 8 weeks before her death and her words of courage were reported back.

Her death has touched us all and her courage is, and will continue to be, an inspiration to those who struggle for freedom the world over. Our thoughts are with Hulya's family comrades and friends at this time, particularly with her brother who also wears the red bandana of the death fast.

Victory to the prisoners. Death to the F types. Victory to the DHKP-C, and, freedom for the Turkish people.
