The Irish Republican Socialist Party in Derry have hit out against the
what it called British State spy-towers at Rosemount and Bishop Street
barracks and demanded there immediate removal.
A spokesperson said that "People living within the immediate vicinity of the Rosemount and Bishop Street barracks continue to have their lives monitored in more ways than one twenty-four hours a day. High powered and sophisticated listening and viewing devices that monitor every move of our lives are used and upgraded continuously despite the introduction of a so-called "normalisation policy" by the British State. For years now the people of Rosemount and Bogside have been monitored and spied on by the RUC and the PSNI in what can only be described as an unacceptable method of intelligence gathering. "We are very concerned about the years of abuse our communities have had to endure in terms of the overall health and emotional impact such tactics undoubtedly create. The IRSP believe that working class communities have yet to feel anymore safer or protected by these eye-sores since there erection and we demand there immediate removal. In conclusion the spokesperson said: "The IRSP welcome all actions of British demilitarisation and removal from within our communities. However this is a situation that is being used by the British state in an attempt to gain more concessions from republicans. The people of Rosemount and the Bogside are simply being used pawns in a sick board-game that many call the 'Good Friday Agreement'." STATEMENTS ENDS |
