Comrades, it is with great sadness that we gather here today to pay tribute to the supreme sacrifice paid by our fallen comrade, John Morris, who was murdered by Free State forces last Thursday [5 June 97], whilst on active service.
Vol. John Morris was a comrade not known personally to us, but that does not diminish the loss we feel as comrades. Vol. John Morris was someone who was born and bred far away from the border and the ongoing struggle against British Oppression. But he was obviously somebody who empathised with the struggle and chose not to sit back like so many down south who would claim to be republican in name only. He chose to play an active part in support of his comrades in pursuit of National Liberation and Socialism in Ireland, a cause for which he was to pay the ultimate price. We salute his bravery and offer our condolences to his family -- their loss is felt by us all and the ongoing struggle for National Liberation and Socialism in Ireland will always be indebted to comrades like Vol. John Morris who are prepared to take up arms for a just cause. He walked in the footsteps of Connolly and our founder Seamus Costello and was guided by their revolutionary principles. Let Vol. John Morris's sacrifice be an inspiration to us all. Let his epitaph be the goal that drove him, the establishment of a 32 County Socialist Republic. In the words of Patsy O'Hara, "Let the Fight Go On." --I.N.L.A. Comrades, Long Kesh |
