INLA Statement Regarding Execution of John Morris
5 June 1997

The following is the text of a statement released to the Socialist Republican Publicity bureau:

"The Irish National Liberation Army claim John Morris as a Volunteer of our South Dublin Brigade.

"Volunteer Morris did not die as a result of an exchange of shots between the Gardai and himself. This was an impossibility as his firearm was not loaded. Despite knowing this, the Garda press office have continued to propagate the lie of a 'shoot-out' - which has been repeated without question by the media.

Volunteer Morris at the time of his death was offering no resistance to the armed Gardai. Forensic tests will prove that the shot inflicted to his head was fired from his rear at a distance of no more than two metres.

This was no more than a state execution of a known Republican Socialist. It will not be forgotten.

The Staff and Volunteers of the Irish National Liberation Army offer our sincere and heartfelt condolences to the friends and family of our brave comrade John."
