IRSC, Austin chapter's statement of support of the Anti-War Committee
22 February 1998

Message delivered in front of the State Capitol in Austin Texas on 22 Feb 98, in support of the Anti-War Committee (Austin)

Fellow workers,

On behalf of the Irish Republican Socialist Committees of North America, the support organization of the Irish Republican Socialist Party, we stand with you in denouncing the impending war with Iraq as wholly anti-working class and of no benefit to any group outside of the capitalist regime within the United States/Britain Coalition, which continues to meddle into the affairs of Ireland, Iraq, and other countries throughout the world.

The 1991 assault on Iraq has left the working class of Iraq devastated, with an infrastructure in ruins, with medical treatment, water purification systems, and food supplies being rare commodities.

The only clear result of this attack will not be the ouster of President Saddam Hussein, nor the destruction of his "supposed" weapons of mass destruction, but rather, massive losses of human life: men, women and children with whom the United States and Britain have no quarrel.

The blood of innocent Iraqi civilians, the blood of the working class of Iraq, will be on the hands of President Clinton and Prime Minister Tony Blair, and every loss we as a class suffer will be remembered.

It is the moral and ethical obligation of the working classes in the United States, in Britain, and in Ireland to join the voices of opponents to this impending war with Iraq, and to reject without hesitation the reasons, the rationalizations, and the lies that we are given daily.

We in the IRSC tell the power brokers in Washington: U.S. out of Iraq, and U.S. out of Ireland!
