Solidarity Statement from the Scottish Republican Socialist Movement

"The Scotch and Irish friendly are,
Their wishes are the same,
The English nation envy us,
And over us would reign.
Our historians and our poets
They always did maintain,
That the origins of Scottish men and Irish are the same.

The centuries have now passed since Henry Joy McCracken wrote these words but still our struggles remain intertwined. Still we suffer at the hands of the same foeÊin theÊstruggle for true national liberation.ÊWe are united in the knowledge that that struggle for national liberation will not be completed without the removal of all traces of Imperialism & the establishment of Scottish, Irish, Welsh and English Socialist Republics.

The principled work undertaken by the IRSM in opposition to the GFA and in defence of working class communities in the face of brutal loyalist aggression does justice to the cause of the international movements for socialism and national liberation.

We in Scotland have been beset by problems over the last year from police harassment & internal conflict. However we are now beginning to move forward again, concentrating on the primacy of politics & energising the struggle for a Scottish Workers Republic.

We also take the opportunity to pay tribute to that brave volunteer "Red" Mickey Devine who laid down his life 21 years ago this weekend in the fight for an Irish Socialist Republic. Like so many others from your ranks, Costello, O'Hara, Lynch, Power - to name a few, Mickey Devine stands out as a beacon of resistance & an inspiration to Republican Socialists here in Scotland in our joint struggle against Anglo-Capitalist Imperialism.

Our most fraternal greetings & solidarity

Donnie Fraser,
Secretary, Scottish Republican Socialist Movement
